Greg Nemer was a young man from Perth who died from an AIDS-related illness in 1988. He was a tireless worker at James House, a short-term crisis accommodation service in Guildford for people with HIV, providing housing, support, and dignity for those in urgent need. Known for his compassion and commitment to the community, his death inspired the creation of the first panel in the Western Australian AIDS Memorial Quilt and the establishment of the Greg Nemer Foundation, which raised funds to support people with HIV during a time of deep stigma and limited services.
