Terry Giblett was an openly HIV-positive adult educator and pioneer in Sydney’s HIV/AIDS community. In 1989, he became ACON’s first HIV Support Officer, organizing peer support, the Living Well II conference, World AIDS Day events, and coordinating the Quilt Project. In a defining moment at the 1988 national AIDS conference, he asked HIV-positive attendees to stand on stage—creating an unforgettable act of visibility that helped shift the epidemic’s public narrative. He also served on the founding PLWA (NSW) committee and as Alternate Convenor of the Australian AIDS Memorial Quilt working group.
