Mr. Pearson's parents, Jan and Walter, who live on the Sunshine Coast, were at the unfolding ceremony, along with other relatives and friends of people with HIV & AIDS. 'Making the quilt has given us all a chance to get to know each other." Mrs Pearson said." "The painting of a cockatoo on Rob Pearson's panel of the memorial quilt has special meaning for his parent, Jan and Walter. / Rob bought a wooden cockatoo toy for his mother before he died. / The day after his death, a cockatoo sat silently and unmoving on the Pearson's back veranda for hours. / Mrs Pearson said she was worried that Rob might not know where they had gone when they moved north to the Sunshine Coast. / Her fears were allayed when another cockatoo appeared as she was making a quilt in memory of her son. / "It was out in the trees and it just screeched the whole time, it would not go away. So I think he knows where we are," she said." SOURCE
