Quilt panel, part of Australian AIDS Memorial Quilt, in memory of Dr Warren Stowe, cotton/ paint, made in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, about 1992 Rectangular quilt panel, landscape orientation. The entire panel is painted as the Aboriginal flag with 'Dr Warren Stowe and 11.5.52 - 13.9.89' hand painted in gold paint around the central yellow circle of this flag. 'Hand painted in gold paint in a semi circular pattern from the lower left side of the panel to the lower right side are the words 'The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death. One must only look to love. Oscar Wilde, Salome' Dr Warren Stowe, was a very proud Aboriginal doctor and apparently was renowned for making very hot chilli beans. This panel was made by a Caucasian friend and perhaps thats why his name was used or perhaps they got permission to use his name before he died' (These notes were provided by Douglas Knox of the South East Area Health Service. For a period of time Mr Knox was Convenor of the Australian AIDS Memorial Quilt Project) He is now (2013) with the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District HIV/AIDS & Related Programs Unit
