Brian Denis Cosgrove (October 9, 1957 - October 26, 1995) taught me how to live in the present. I stopped wearing a watch. We’d pay the rent on Thursday, buy flowers from the florist on Oxford Street and come home feeling content. He could cook and make leather belts.I wish I could remember how we first met or when we first kissed. I remember moving into the terrace on Anne Street and the party for my 30th birthday. I remember our trips together, Elands, Woolgoolga and Bulahdelha. I remember Brian didn’t have a drivers license. We visited the USA too.Brian was a loved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. A registered nurse, he was a fabulous host and a member of the first Gay Games team in San Francisco. I remember the horse he rescued and the garden he built. I hope I told him that he rescued me too. He planted trees. I’ve forgotten the sound of Brian’s voice but not how he made me feel.Brian would be 62 today.
