Australian Queer Archives (AQuA)

The Australian Queer Archives (AQuA) collects, preserves and celebrates material from the lives and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer, Brotherboy and Sistergirl (LGBTIQ+) Australians.

Established in 1978, we hold the pre-eminent research collection for LGBTIQ+ histories in Australia. We are a volunteer-run, non-profit, community-based incorporated association. We are located in Melbourne, Australia and are assisted by members and supporters around Australia and the world. We actively acquire material documenting Australian lesbian, gay, trans and gender diverse, bisexual, intersex, sistergirl and brotherboy life, including:

• Organisational records and personal papers
• Books and magazines
• Audiovisual recordings (eg. TV, film, radio etc)
• Textiles (eg. clothing, costumes, banners etc)
• Photographs
• Posters
• Ephemera
• Objects
• Artworks

If you would like to donate material, we would encourage you to check our https://queerarchives.org.au/collection-policy/ to confirm that the material is in scope, and our https://queerarchives.org.au/collection-listings/ to check whether we already hold what you are offering.
